I had the pleasure of working with Sue Gray, a Singaporean artist known for her life-size paintings inspired by local bottle designs. Over two projects, I captured her creative process in the studio and documented a gallery exhibition, creating photos and videos that highlight both her work and her personality.
Sue’s art is highly visual and experiential, so the challenge wasn’t just photographing the paintings—it was translating the energy of her process and exhibitions into content that resonates online. The goal was to showcase her creativity, her personality, and her interactions with visitors in a way that feels genuine and approachable.
We approached everything in a documentary-style, candid way. In the studio, I focused on capturing Sue naturally—painting, setting up her work, and sharing her process—while also creating lifestyle shots that reflected her energy and presence. During her exhibition, we documented her interactions with visitors and the atmosphere of the gallery, so that anyone viewing the content online could feel part of the experience. Everything was designed to be versatile—social media, portfolio, and promotional content—without losing the human side of the story.
What I love about working with creatives like Sue is that they pour their hearts into their work, but aren’t always used to putting themselves in front of the camera. Capturing candid, authentic moments requires trust and connection—and once that’s established, everything else falls into place. You can’t fake the mood, the smiles, or the energy of a session, and Sue’s down-to-earth nature made it easy to create content that truly represents her.
At the end of the day, this project wasn’t just about showcasing art—it was about highlighting the artist herself, her approach, and the joy she brings to her work. When intention, trust, and collaboration come together, the results are as heartfelt as the work itself.
