Brand Story Video, Competition Entry (We won 1st place)

The goal was to create a video for La Petite Ecole Singapore that served two purposes — to enter a French educational school competition and to function as an “About Us” video. In short, the production was a success — we won 1st prize!

Backstory: I spent some time researching online, watching brand videos from other international schools, and noticed that many of them followed a similar template: having the principal or school leader talk about the school’s achievements, facilities, and values. While this approach is effective in capturing attention, it also raises an important question: if every school does the same thing, how do you stand out?

What we did differently: When I think of a school, I immediately see it as a community — even a family — because parents place trust in the school to nurture their children. That trust between parents and teachers is the foundation of everything. Therefore, our video needed to reflect that sense of connection.

Since the students featured in the video were all permitted by their parents, we decided to start with a fun, candid moment — a group of students interacting naturally with the interviewer. Additionally, the first 5 to 10 seconds of a video are crucial for capturing attention, we wanted to do it in a lighthearted, comedic way. This not only engages the audience but also makes parents proud to see their children featured, encouraging them to share the video — leading to more visibility organically.

After that, we followed a familiar structure — featuring the principal and teachers talking about the school. However, this time, we kept it short and focused on the teachers’ personal stories and their views on education. Every teacher has a unique journey, and by sharing these stories, we allow the audience to connect with them on a more personal and emotional level.

With the theme of “community and family” in mind, we paired their stories with candid classroom moments — capturing genuine interactions in a documentary style. The result was a heartfelt video that not only represented the school authentically but also addressed parents’ concerns in an informative and relatable way. A true “About Us” video that could be used across various platforms.

Final Thoughts: If you’re thinking about producing a brand story video for your educational centre, consider focusing on honouring your community. This could mean interviewing students or parents, sharing teachers’ insights and experiences, or simply documenting authentic classroom moments that show the bond between teachers and students.

In short — your brand and your community go hand in hand.
Your brand = your community.
Your community = your brand.
